Power quality control with CENTO

Learn how to monitor, analyze, and optimize energy performance with CENTO

In today’s industrial and energy sectors, power quality and efficiency are critical for reliable operations, regulatory compliance, and cost optimization. The Energy and Power Quality Control Module in the CENTO platform turns complex electrical data into clear, actionable insights that improve performance and profitability.

Reducing downtime and failures

Effective power quality management directly cuts downtime and equipment failures. Issues such as voltage dips, harmonic distortion, and load imbalance can shorten asset lifespan and increase maintenance expenses. The CENTO Power Quality module helps detect and resolve these issues early, saving repair costs, extending equipment life, and preventing production interruptions.

Ensuring compliance with standards

Compliance with national and international standards like IEC 61000-4-30 or EN 50160 is another essential factor. Many utilities and industrial sites must regularly report voltage variations, flicker, and harmonic levels. Manual reporting is time-consuming and prone to errors. CENTO automates data collection and report generation, reducing administrative work, audit risks, and potential penalties for non-compliance.

Driving measurable energy savings

The module also drives measurable energy savings. By combining power quality monitoring with analytics and trend tracking, users can pinpoint inefficiencies and take corrective actions such as phase balancing, reactive power compensation, or load redistribution. These actions lead to lower energy losses, better utilization of assets, and more informed investment decisions backed by data.

Providing a unified interface

User experience is a major strength of the CENTO platform. Engineers, operators, and managers share a unified interface that consolidates information from meters, analyzers, and SCADA systems. This approach simplifies training, reduces software costs, and helps teams make faster, evidence-based decisions.

Supporting sustainability goals

For companies committed to sustainability, maintaining high power quality also supports energy conservation and carbon-reduction goals. Cleaner electrical signals mean fewer system losses, lower heat generation, and higher overall efficiency, contributing to both environmental targets and long-term savings.

Core functional overview

The CENTO Energy and Power Quality Control module is built around four key capabilities:

Data acquisition and connectivity
The module connects to diverse industrial devices using standard protocols such as FTP, Modbus/TCP, IEC 61850, and OPC UA. It collects high-resolution data in compliance with IEC 61000-4-30 Class A standards. Users can configure polling intervals with flexible scheduling and import entire device groups via Excel or CSV templates, accelerating deployment.

Analytics and reporting
Built-in algorithms analyze key indicators like voltage dips, swells, flicker, harmonics (THD, TDD), unbalance, and transient events. The system automatically highlights anomalies and creates compliant reports that include visuals, KPIs, and recommended corrective actions. These reports help operators maintain standards and continuously improve network performance.

Dashboards and visualization
IBM Plex Sansactive dashboards present both real-time and historical data. Engineers can drill down into specific feeders or time periods, while managers get top-level summaries and trend indicators. Custom widgets display harmonic levels, event frequency, and estimated financial impact from poor power quality. Comparing sites or time ranges helps teams benchmark performance and target improvements.

Actions and Integration
The module can trigger automatic responses such as exporting reports, sending alerts via email or SMS, and integrating with maintenance or asset-management systems. It also provides contextual recommendations, for example adjusting capacitor banks, balancing phases, or tuning harmonic filters. Within the broader CENTO ecosystem, it connects seamlessly with Asset Health, Energy Management, and Sustainability Analytics modules to create a complete energy-performance environment.
