CENTO unifies monitoring, metering, diagnostics, reporting, and remote control across 210 sites

One of the world’s largest integrated steel producers faced growing complexity in managing its energy infrastructure. Over time, six different systems had been deployed across the company’s facilities to monitor electrical consumption, log power quality issues, perform fault analysis, and control infrastructure. Many of these systems were based on outdated or custom software that required significant resources to maintain and offered limited interoperability.

Integrated energy monitoring and infrastructure control platform

CENTO was selected as the central platform for monitoring, metering, diagnostics, and remote infrastructure control. The solution was deployed across 210 facilities, consolidating all existing energy-related systems into a single, unified environment. 

CENTO collects and visualizes over 200,000 parameters, integrating data from a wide variety of devices, including protective relays, sensors, controllers, analyzers, and legacy meters. The platform supports remote control of switchgear, real-time data analysis, and event-based notifications. 

To ensure seamless integration, CENTO was connected to 11 external systems, including MES, ERP, and production analytics platforms, using standard protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, SQL, Web API, IEC 104). The rollout was executed in phases to minimize disruption, with existing infrastructure reused wherever possible.

Real-time data visibility and equipment analytics

With CENTO in place, the company achieved full visibility and control over its energy infrastructure. Real-time data from all monitored sites is now accessible through a single interface, enabling maintenance teams, energy managers, and production units to coordinate more effectively. The system supports remote control of electrical equipment, reducing response time during incidents and lowering the risk of operational downtime. 

Predictive diagnostics help identify potential failures in advance, allowing the maintenance team to act proactively. Centralized reporting and analysis tools provide accurate, structured data for both operational and strategic decision-making. What was once a fragmented, siloed environment is now a coordinated and transparent system supporting day-to-day operations and long-term planning.

The platform continues to evolve as the company expands its digital energy strategy. New use cases are being added, including advanced energy cost analysis, automated reporting for regulatory compliance, and tighter integration with asset maintenance systems. CENTO has become the foundation for a broader shift toward data-driven infrastructure management, connecting operations, maintenance, and finance through a shared digital layer. 

The flexibility of the platform allows the company to adapt quickly to new requirements, scale across additional sites, and standardize energy-related processes across the enterprise. By consolidating monitoring, metering, diagnostics, and control into a single environment, CENTO supports both operational efficiency and long-term sustainability in one of the most demanding industrial sectors in the world.
