Centralized IIoT platform, energy and process control in the mining industry
CENTO as a single source of truth for operations, energy, and maintenance

A large polymetallic mine located in the European region was operating with fragmented systems for energy monitoring and equipment control. Most data was collected manually, and the number of available user workstations was insufficient for effective daily operations. Maintenance planning relied on rough estimates of equipment runtime, and reporting to the management company required significant time and manual effort. As production volumes increased, the limitations of the existing setup became more evident. The mine needed a centralized system that could consolidate real-time data, improve visibility across departments, and support both operational and reporting needs.

To address these challenges, the mine implemented CENTO as a unified software platform for energy monitoring, equipment runtime tracking, and production control. Unlike traditional SCADA systems that focus solely on process automation, CENTO was deployed as a flexible tool covering both monitoring and operational functions. Dispatchers now use CENTO’s interface to control equipment such as dewatering pumps, ventilation systems, and ore processing units directly from the centralized dashboard. The system was configured and commissioned in close collaboration with the mine’s in-house team, with CENTO providing remote support and ongoing technical guidance. The implementation leveraged existing field devices and protocols, integrating them into a single platform without disrupting ongoing operations.

Collocation and enterprise data center solutions
The introduction of CENTO significantly improved operational efficiency. Over 5,000 real-time data points are now collected and visualized within the platform, alongside 500+ energy and utility metering channels. More than 100 equipment runtime parameters are tracked, supporting condition-based maintenance and reducing unplanned downtime. Dispatchers monitor key assets through 70+ process diagrams and manage over 900 technology events across different systems. For the first time, teams can view equipment status, energy consumption, and process data in a single environment, without switching between tools or requesting manual updates. This has enabled faster response to incidents, more accurate maintenance planning, and better coordination across departments.

With a stable foundation in place, the system continues to evolve. The mine is expanding its use of CENTO to include runtime tracking for mobile self-propelled equipment and integrating additional utility meters. Historical data is now used to support internal audits and cost analysis, while automated reporting simplifies communication with the corporate office.
For the customer, the key value lies in having a scalable, vendor-neutral platform that can grow with the site’s needs. CENTO has replaced multiple disconnected systems with a unified solution, supporting daily operations, long-term planning, and strategic energy management within a single digital environment.
